He incorporated an automatic device that allowed you to set the amount of draft or pull on the plow and it would automatically raise the plow if a harder piece of soil was encountered with the plow or let it down a little if an easier place to pull the plow was encountered. He finally invented a hydraulic lift that had 3 points for attaching his specially built 3 point implements such as turning plows and cultivators. Harry Ferguson had been making and selling tractors for years in the early 30s. Is something not right with the linkage on the draft lever? If I have the tractor running and the draft lever in the up position and the lift lever all the way up the lift lever stays put but as soon as I put the draft lever in the down position the lift lever moves down on its own about 1.5 inches, If I push down on the draft lever and hold it there than raise the lift lever back up it will stay put. So I"ve removed the pump inspection cover and loosened the 4 bolts on the quadrant and slid it back until that lever just touches the pump thingy as per some instructions I got off the net, it seems to hold the implement now in draft control but I haven"t been able to try it in the field yet as it"s too wet out, but something doesn"t seem right. I have a earlier post about problems I"m having pulling a 2 bottom Ferguson plow and came to the conclusion that there"s something wrong with the draft control on my 8n, the deal was that as soon as I put the draft lever in the down position the plow went all the way down no matter where the lift lever was set at. ![]()
